Library Refurbishments

Library Refurbishments

A library should feel like a place children want to be.

In many schools we serve, libraries have been left untouched for decades. Shelves are outdated. Books are worn or no longer relevant. Spaces meant for reading are used for storage — or closed entirely.

Access Books partners with public schools to change that.

How a Library Refurbishment Works

Every refurbishment begins the same way: by listening.

We work directly with school leaders, educators, and library staff to understand how the space is used — and how it could be used. Each school is different, and every library reflects the community it serves.

From there, we:

  • Assess the existing space and collection
  • Remove outdated or damaged materials
  • Design a refreshed library layout that invites students in
  • Build a new, high-interest book collection aligned to student ages, identities, and interests
  • Add murals or visual elements that reflect the school community
  • Reopen the library as a place meant for daily use

This isn’t a cosmetic update. It’s a functional reset.

The goal is simple: to create a library that works for the children who walk into it every day.

Why It Matters

When libraries are current, welcoming, and built with students in mind, children return to them — not because they have to, but because they want to.

Reading becomes part of the school day again.
