Donate Books

The right books make a real difference.

Donated books play an important role in Access Books libraries when they meet current classroom and student needs. The books we place are chosen carefully—so they’re inviting, relevant, and ready to be read.

We are grateful for every offer to donate. Clear guidelines help ensure each book we receive can be put to immediate use in a school library or classroom.

Books We’re Happy to Accept

We welcome new and gently used children’s books that are:

  • In excellent condition (clean, intact, and readable)
  • Age-appropriate for elementary and middle school students
  • Inclusive, engaging, and reflective of today’s students
  • Current titles that support reading for joy and learning

These books are sorted and placed with intention so they reach the right readers at the right time.

Books We’re Unable to Accept

Because storage and sorting space is limited, and because schools have specific needs, we’re not able to accept:

  • Damaged, marked-up, or heavily worn books
  • Outdated titles or materials
  • Adult books or textbooks
  • Encyclopedias, workbooks, or magazines

Declining certain items allows us to focus resources on books that students can use immediately and proudly.

Not Sure if Your Books Are a Good Fit?

We’re happy to help.

If you have questions about a specific donation, or want guidance before collecting books, our team can walk you through next steps.

When choosing books to donate, please identify books that you would be comfortable giving as a gift. Nothing damaged, tattered, or dated. No adult books or library discards, please. Please consider donating these materials to your local public library or Goodwill.

If we receive books that do not meet the needs of the communities we serve, we will recycle them. Please be thoughtful when donating books!

If you have books you would like to donate, please use the drop-off sites below. Most sites are residential and do not keep drop-off hours. Please sort your books by grade level and label the boxes accordingly. Include a note if you require tax documentation and leave it outside the residence. Books should be in sealed, stackable boxes (rather than bags or overflowing boxes).

If you have more than six boxes, please contact us before dropping off. We may direct you to a school site rather than a private residence.

Thank you!
