Our Work

Library Refurbishments

We transform school libraries into welcoming, functional spaces designed around the students who use them.

Curated Book Collections

Collections are intentionally built by age, interest, and cultural relevance for our partner schools.

Literacy Experiences

Author visits and reading events like book clubs turn books into lived experiences for the school community.

Take-Home Books

Book bundles allow students to build personal libraries — often for the first time.

Our Work Story

“The Work Behind the Shelves”

Refurbished libraries are often noticed for what’s visible: updated shelves, new books, and refreshed spaces. What’s less visible is the planning that happens before a library opens its doors again. At many school sites, Access Books staff cull the collection for outdated, inappropriate and tattered books. In many cases, titles are from the 1960s.

New collections are curated intentionally. Schools are consulted on what will best serve their students. Layouts are designed to support use, not appearance.

This story reflects how Access Books works. The goal isn’t symbolic change. It’s practical, thoughtful access — built to last.

Impact Story

“When Reading Takes Over the Day”

Educators described changes that went beyond scheduled reading time. Students began moving independently between classrooms and the library. They spent free time reading. They shared recommendations with one another.

Reading became part of the daily rhythm of the school — not because it was required, but because the environment supported it.

This is how Access Books understands impact: when access leads to sustained use, not one-time engagement.
